Conventions in horror films:

Conventions are used and seen all the time In everything. They are what are expected to be seen in a particular thing. In horror films, these are the particular most common conventions used and seen in multiple different horror films.

A secluded location - Alot of horror films are scenes out of the way from help, other people, or anything and practically in the middle of nowhere. This effect is used to create a fear for the audience knowing that there can only be bad from this.

Characters forgetting about he threat - A lot of the time in horror films, the characters forget or see something not quite right and still proceed and continue approaching a danger. Then an occasional jump scare. This creates suspense for the audience and gets them prepared to be frightened.

The power is cut - This is often used a lot in many horror films. The power being cut off could be a first sign of danger to come. It is a good convention to use in horror as it creates the scene more vulnerable for the characters, and gives more fear for the audience watching as they're aware of something bad to occur.

PhoneLine being cut/no signal - Losing signal is a convention used a lot in horror films. Being in danger and not able to ring anyone increases the suspense to watch, and is another sign of danger to come as they could be in need of help and will have no way of contacting anyone to receive help from.

Someone investigating a strange noise - Right, if you heard a strange noise coming from your attic, would you go check what it is or run away as fast as you could? Going to investigate a strange noise is so dumb, and it alerts the audience that there is certain danger. Usually it's not the main character because the main character usually doesn't die or atleast until the end of the film.

Someone runs upstairs instead of outside - when someone runs upstairs instead of outside which is the better option you just know it won't end well. Often the person that runs upstairs will run into the bathroom in some sort of wardrobe. This convention brings a scare as it shows the audience of danger to appear.

Vehicle wont start - This convention is used usually when a certain character is trying to excape from danger rapidly. Ofcause the car wont start, and therefore the danger for example a mad serial killer chasing the victim wont be able to get away. This convention creates an impact that brings fear to the audience and a sign of something desperately wrong going to happen.

To conclude, these are only a few amont of the most popular conventions seen in horror films. They are used effectively to convey a scare towards the audience watching the film.
