Use of sound in our opening

The first step we took in deciding which sounds to use in our horror film opening was referring to research we had previously conducted into conventional sounds expected in our genre of an ultra low budget horror film, from there we went online and considered various sounds that were judged on how they would fit into our film in terms of ambience pitch and speed. We achieved this by Looking at various video's on different websites.
The songs we looked to obtain for our opening were part of 3 hour playlists so would be harder to download due to file sizes, we eventually decided on a background music file to use the next step was to download it.

A common occurrence we found when exporting files from Youtube and downloading them to an mp3 version was that the content for websites we wanted to load were all blocked by the schools ICT administrators. However, in our own time we researched which the best sites for converting videos were and approached DownVid.net which was unlocked and abled us to convert the video although it was in an Mp4 format.

Due to issues in finding a website for mp3 we decided to use the video we downloaded in mp4 and restrict it from the background image being seen using Premier Pro. This meant we could still have the desired background sounds but it would be hidden using a tool in editing. Overall we broke the sound up into certain stages for the editing process in order to fit in with timings we intended to use within the horror film opening.

Construction: Editing

Our first step when assessing how we would edit the opening was to insert all the clips together and to make a rough edit of what it would look like in order to fit in with the time limit. This meant we had to remove certain area's and trim clips down so we can add other clips in. We also allowed spaces to insert titles. Overall, we spent around half an hour inserting all the clips and making a rough edit.

We also left gaps for titles. The titles we used were influenced by our audience as we sent out a survey consisting of questions on how we can improve our opening and a request was to have titles in a certain way.

We chose between several fonts for the titles and decided 'Nanum Brush Script's was the most suitable for the look we wanted to achieve. We then added the titles onto our production.

After this we added sound which we embedded from Youtube. Our main aim was to make timings appropriate so when an actor made  a specific action such as fall over or take a step the tempo of the music will sync with their action. We also had several sounds at once so we had to make sure one was not louder than another.

Finally, we had to adjust video settings in our edit as we found some of the clips we had recorded were dark so we raised the lighting to make them more visible.
